OSgrid,..wie geht es weiter?

Ich warte erstmal ab und bastel derweil weiter... Was SL macht ist mir ehrlich gesagt schnurz... Und ich bezweifle dass viele dauerhaft zu SL2 wechseln werden. Im ersten Augenblick ja... Weil es was neues ist, aber wenn das noch mehr Barbie Ankleide Paradies ist wie SL jetzt schon, wird es dem SL2 gehen wie Cloudparty und anderen 3D Welten... Vor allem weil man komplett neu anfangen muss... Es wird einschlafen und von einem Giganten geschluckt um an die Technologie zu kommen.
Solange genug User Geld im Grid lassen wird SL 1 weiterlaufen wie bei den GameServern, die ja teilweise auch noch ewig weiterliefen/laufen. Es wird gewartet aber nicht mehr weiterentwickelt. Wer weiss, vielleicht überlebt SL1 ja SL2... Das gabs bei Spielen ja auch schon...

Und eine Loslösung von SL kann OS nur gut tun egal auf welcher Basis... Solange es "abwärtskompatibel" bleibt hat es ne Chance.

Also abwarten und Tee rauchen und derweil weiter machen. Und solange Freaky am Ball bleibt, bin ich zufrieden. Wär für die OSGler zwar doof wenn das OSG off bleibt, aber wer wirklich Spass an der Sache hat, findet einen Weg weiter zu machen (haben einige ja schon, auch wenn erstmal als temporäre Lösung geplant).

the scoop right now is that a strategy has been formed - the data recovery service will attempt a deep read of the broken disks to generate a copy on fresh disks -- the idea being to get the data onto drives that do not generate SMART errors and freak out the controller."

"If we can get to that point, a pair of the drives will be reconnected in the interest of allowing the controller to correct the logical errors present and rebuild one of the mirrors. If that fails, the same operation will be tried on the other pair. If both fails, we're looking at having to pay to have the raid manually rebuilt, which is when it gets really expensive."

"As of this moment, we're working through getting the statement of work/invoice accurate (there has been a little confusion as to where the new drives were to come from, and they were attempting to charge us for these). The hosting company will be providing the drives. That's the other thing happening right now, is the related logistics of getting the new drives."

"For the record, concerning finances:
We have been carrying about a 3000$ surplus, since about forever. Since the crash, increased one-time donations had us at about 4000$ surplus, last time I checked the balance (been a few weeks). This will comfortably cover the cloning operation, and should it work out, we'll be in good shape. We'll probably need a bit more if we have to have the array manually rebuilt."

NEWS: The cloned drives are back at LSN. They will be connecting one pair of the drives and attempting the first stage of the rebuild.

Greetings,

We have new information on the recovery process. The array was not able to be rebuilt from the cloned drives due to logical partition errors so the recovery service has performed a full recovery, restoring everything to a single 6 tb drive that the engineer said should boot and that all the files are intact. The additional costs, less the $2302.56 we have already paid them, comes to $2510. We currently have $3432.88 which would make our budget very tight (we still have hosting costs, etc).

< leTwitch> The news is, there really isn’t much new to tell. Three different organizations spread geographically all over Texas are all struggling with a broken raid volume. We get two steps fwd and one back; be patient. There really isn’t a good way to give an eta on work like this; once we can certify that we have the volume back in a readable form, then we can start pinning down certain tasks and registering progress. Even then, ETAs will be just that *estimated* time to arrival.
< leTwitch> The real showstopper at this juncture is that the data recovery folks can see the data, but when they ship it to the datacenter and we get it hooked up to the server, we cant. So right now what’s happening is a straight up dump of the paths and directories to a big volume (single partition). The last thing that didn’t work for us was a set of partition copies. The thing we’re doing now is the last trick up the sleeve of the engineer doing the data recovery; if this doesn’t work, we’ll be left with nothing more to do than rebuild the server and start rebuilding from archives.
My understanding is, we dont pay anything if they dont get our stuff back, so if thats how it winds up, we’ll be talking with them about getting back what we have already paid them.

Die Datenretter können also die Daten lesen, aber der Provider dem OS-Grid keine große Platte leihen, um die Daten auf eine zusammenhängende Partition zu kopieren? Was für Firmen sind das denn, die in Amerika Server hosten...

Wenn es jetzt noch an sowas scheitert, dann hat das OSgrid aber wirklich echt riesengroßes Pech und sollte vielleicht mal einen anderen Hoster suchen.
